Our new home for Shoebox Christmas is live - use it now to find how you can help communities affected by Cyclone Gabrielle
Brrrrrrr
Kia ora!
Oooh, tino makariri rawa atu te rā nei! The day is very (verrrrry) cold!
I hope you’re well, warm, and loving life. A few quick updates as the warmth flows back into my fingertips…
I and the rangatahi crew are gearing up to start this year's projects, as well as working on how we can give this leadership development programme to our schools as a gift. The feedback from our rangatahi last year was overwhelming that the next step needs to be figuring out how to make the experience they had, something our college students can participate in, without being penalised ie. how do we align the learnings and subjects with NZQA/NCEA so they can take part at school and have that learning recognised? We’re working through that now with some help from some amazing friends.
The most important elements of ako or learning, according to the rangatahi who took part last year, were personal leadership, kaupapa/project/organisational leadership, effective kōrero/communication, effective data use, and the magic of MVPs (Minimal Viable Products). So we’re working on putting those lessons into a format useful in our schools. More on that later!
We also recently launched the MVP of our new home for Shoebox Christmas (and other kaupapa/projects). We launched this early because we thought it might be useful for those of us trying to find ways to support our communities affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. Hundreds of people have used it already for this, so it seems like it is useful. If you’d like to see how you can help locally, check it out here:
It’s still a work in progress but let us know what you think (there’s a feedback link on the site at the bottom of the page).
If you’d like to ask if we can add a group collecting items or donations, get in touch here.
Ngā manaakitanga,
