Projects still needing gifters
Kia ora e hoa!
Most importantly, some of our friends in the schools and social services are still looking for acts of aroha to help make Christmas special for their tamariki.
If you can lend a hand in any of these areas, please click the link.
Lots of these projects have added a second drop-off address for outside office/school hours to make it easier for you to get your koha there :)
If you're not able to help out with a koha yourself, please spread the word by sharing these projects with your networks. This kaupapa only works because of our collective strength and we need every one of us right now.
I know you’re busy, so here’s a post you can use in case that’s easier:
And how about that hīkoi? Regardless of your thoughts or understanding of the Treaty Principles Bill, I hope you were able to appreciate the beauty of what happens when we come together in support of something we believe in. I’m not going to fill up this email with it but I wrote a bit about the hīkoi and bill over here.
Ki te kotahi te kākaho, ka whati; ki te kāpuia, e kore e whati. (When a reed stands alone it is vulnerable, but a group of reeds together is unbreakable.)
Also please remember the Facebook group is full of kind neighbours who often pick up and deliver koha for those who can’t get there in time. Shoebox Christmas and Koha Tree is about kōtahitanga and collective action, it’s not something you need to do alone - you’re taking part alongside an amazing group of people who like you, believe community is about what we do, not where we live.
Important reminder for our current gifters
Gifters are already dropping their koha off and it’s awesome to see them posting in the Facebook group. Not only is it a beautiful moment to share, it helps remind others in our little community that it’s that time of the year and to make sure we’ve got our own koha ready to go.
If you've already signed up, please double-check your koha due date. It's super important we get them there in time. You can find all the details by:
Logging into your project on Koha Tree
Clicking Joined Projects
Checking the drop-off section for your specific project
Heads up: Emergency gifters needed
Next week, we'll be putting out a call for emergency gifters. As always, we'll need some amazing and quick-acting friends to step in and help with last-minute matches for koha that haven’t arrived for whatever reason. You don’t need to do anything yet, but stay tuned for more details on this - we’ll need your help to make sure no tamariki miss out!
Ngā manaakitanga,
Pera
PS: If you're struggling to get your koha to the drop-off location, don't panic! Ask in the Facebook group - there's always someone who can help get gifts from A to B. That's what community is about 🙂
Have my koha, going to wrap it this weekend for drop off on Monday.
Thanks for all you do! We appreciate you.
